Black Music first started in Africa, where our ancestors used to play a beat on their drums and hands. as they did this, they would often tell stories. African stories and history was never written, but memorized by their scribes, of a sort. Because of this differentiatoin in culture, European invaders and scholars thought they were less sophisticated, and thought that they had no written language, which was a big misconception. Because of this misconception, the Europeans felt that they were greatly superior to the Africans, which led to hundreds of years of captivity and slavery for Africans.
